Los Tres Ojos
Los Tres Ojos translates to the Three Eyes. This refers to the three caverns just 5 miles from Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. A long and narrow stairway will take you down to a concrete path that leads through these stalactite-covered caverns. Each one has beautiful blue oval lagoons at the bottom (named for their shape. Though swimming is not permitted for visitors, you can tip a guy to jump from 6 meters into the water! There is also a fourth Ojo that is accessible by a wooden barge, though it is an open lake with lots of fish as opposed to a cavern. The three ojos’ caverns were once used for refuge and rituals. You might be able to see pottery shards and petroglyphs as you tour the caverns.
